Xi’an 西安
Path of the East
This limited edition of 500 pieces celebrates the cultural exchanges along the Silk Road, creating a dialogue between Venice and the East. Xi’an, the starting point of this millennia-old network of trade and cultural routes, is the inspiring soul of the project. The dial, hand-assembled from red mother-of-pearl worked in a mosaic pattern, reinterprets the traditional cloud motif, a symbol of prosperity and good fortune in Chinese culture. The design echoes the ordered rhythm of imperial decorations, while the gold-toned indices and Chinese ideogram numerals complete the composition, reinforcing the connection with the visual language of the ancient capital.

At the heart of this limited edition lies a research journey that led us to explore the most evocative symbols of Xi’an’s cultural identity. The auspicious cloud motif comes to life on the mother-of-pearl dial, while the Terracotta Army animates the engraved scene on the caseback. The bezel featuring Chinese characters completes the creation, transforming traditional iconography into a contemporary language that pays homage to the living, ongoing dialogue between East and West.

This craftsmanship stems from a meticulous, entirely manual process. The mother-of-pearl is carefully selected and cut into small tesserae inspired by the cloud motif, then individually applied onto a brass base to build a precise and harmonious composition. The material’s natural iridescence, together with its red hues, makes each dial unique, with subtle color variations that shift with the light.

The Silk Road emerged as a vast network of commercial and cultural exchanges that, starting with the Han dynasty (2nd century BC), connected China with the Mediterranean world. While in the East this network found its core in the city of Xi’an, Venice gradually became one of its main Western references, thanks to the role of its merchants and the maritime routes linking the East to Europe. Along these paths traveled goods, ideas, and knowledge, giving rise to one of the most enduring intercultural dialogues in history—still an inexhaustible source of inspiration today.

The Guardians of Xi’an
Engraved on the caseback is the Terracotta Army, one of the most extraordinary testimonies of imperial Chinese civilization and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The figures of the warriors, rendered with fine and detailed lines, evoke their original role as guardians and protectors of the First Emperor’s tomb. In this contemporary interpretation, they become the “guardians” of the limited edition, accompanied by the progressive numbering engraved from 1 to 500, making each piece unique.

500 pieces Limited Edition
To accompany the watch, a dedicated presentation box was created, conceived as a natural extension of the project. The surface, in a deep red hue, is decorated with golden ideograms displaying both the ancient name Hao (镐) and the modern name Xi'an (西安), arranged on two distinct sides. The cloud motif that envelops the entire packaging echoes the visual language of the dial, creating an aesthetic continuity that reinforces the limited edition's identity.
