It is said that in the 17th century, the name “aventurine” derived from “avventura” (adventure), referring to a fortuitous discovery. The Venetian glassmakers obtained it by chance, spilling copper fragments into a blue glass paste. The result was a shimmering, iridescent glass, which became a symbol of Venetian craftsmanship and spread throughout Europe. Today, this tradition still lives on in the Venetian furnaces, where fire and ingenuity transform matter into unique creations. We have reinterpreted this art in our watches, giving new life to aventurine in the dials, where depth and light reflections evoke the charm of ancient Venetian craftsmanship.
Aventurine is born from the art of glassmaking, where silica and copper are fused in a process controlled with extreme precision. The secret lies in the slow cooling, which allows the copper to crystallize into luminous specks. This technique requires great expertise, as every variation in temperature can affect the result. Once the glass mass is obtained, it is water-cut with extreme precision to produce thin discs, ideal for the manufacturing of dials.
Designing a slim automatic watch is a challenge, especially with a double-layer dial. For the Arsenale Avventurina, we mounted a genuine aventurine surface onto a soleil brass base, creating depth without increasing thickness. Thanks to the Miyota 9039 movement—without date and with 28,800 vibrations per hour—we managed to keep the case at just 9.95 mm, achieving the perfect balance between design and wearability.
The case back of this timepiece pays tribute to one of the most iconic symbols of the Arsenale of Venice: the towers. Carefully engraved, they are more than just a visual tribute; they symbolize the deep connection between tradition and innovation that defines our craft. Just as the Venetian Arsenale once merged technological advancements with solid craftsmanship, this timepiece blends classic watchmaking elements with modern design, creating a piece that looks toward the future while staying deeply rooted in its origins.
We offer the chance to enrich your watch set with our Canova Concept™ bracelet, available at an additional cost of only $100.
